jason-clarke Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Jake Gyllenhaal and Jason Clarke are all in talks to star in “Everest”, a disaster action flick to be directed by Baltasar Kormakur, according to Deadline. Christian Bale had previously been in talks but it looks like that fell through.

The film will follow the 1996 Mt. Everest disaster, where a massive storm killed eight climbers from three separate expeditions. Jon Krakauer’s first hand account of his experience in “Into Thin Air” made the disaster famous, though the film will pull from other books and interviews with survivors and witnesses. An October shoot in Iceland is tentatively scheduled. This is a different “Everest” from the one Doug Liman is directing with Tom Hardy attached to star. That one is about the 1920s expedition undertaken by George Mallory.

Gyllenhaal was last seen in David Ayer’s cop drama “End of Watch” and has wrapped thrillers “An Enemy” and “Prisoners.” He’ll next play one of the Princes in Rob Marshall’s “Into the Woods.” Clarke is one of our Faces to Watch in 2013 after impressing last year in John Hillcoat’s “Lawless” and particularly Kathryn Bigelow’s “Zero Dark Thirty.” This year he’s already starred in “The Great Gatsby” and “White House Down” and he recently wrapped “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.”
