Just a tease of the apocalyptic world left behind by the events of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is glimpsed in the first trailer for sequel “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” in which the apes have flourished while the humans – led by Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke and Keri Russell – have struggled to survive.
This isn’t much more than what we got to see at Comic-Con over the summer, but the scenery does look beautiful – that moss-covered gas station is especially striking – and Clarke seems ideally suited as a man who takes on an ape army. Andy Serkis is back and mo-capped again as Caesar, the leader of that army, with warpaint and all, while Matt Reeves took over directing duties from Rupert Wyatt.
“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” will be released on May 23, 2014. The first trailer is below.
