Now that they have their Sarah Connor and John Connor, director Alan Taylor and the filmmakers behind reboot “Terminator: Genesis” are on the search for their Kyle Reese to join Emilia Clarke and Jason Clarke in the film. Variety reports a plethora of relatively unknown young actors are up for the role, with Jai Courtney, Boyd Holbrook, Wilson Bethel, Sam Reid and Tom Cocquerel among the actors going in to test on Monday.
The film, which will also have a TV series tie-in, will feature a young Sarah Connor (indeed, younger than her future son John) as well as a young Kyle Reese and has been rumored to be set in the 1950s for at least one portion of events. Filming is expected to begin soon with a July 1, 2015 release date already set. Holbrook had previously been reported to be in the mix for a role, though it’s unclear if that means he has a leg up in the competition. Taylor had also been interested in slightly more recognizable names like Garrett Hedlund and Nicholas Hoult, but neither actor wanted to read for the part.
Holbrook was one of our Faces to Watch in 2013 and recently wrapped David Fincher’s “Gone Girl.” Bethel is probably most known for his role as Wade on CW series “Hart of Dixie” opposite Rachel Bilson. Courtney has “I, Frankenstein” and “Divergent” coming up. Reid will next be seen opposite Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Fox Searchlight drama “Belle.” Cocquerel, the name most unfamiliar to us, is an Aussie newcomer which probably means he’ll be super famous soon. He’s currently filming “Kidnapping Freddy Heineken” opposite Sam Worthington.
