The search for Kyle Reese in reboot “Terminator: Genesis” is getting close to a conclusion, with Deadline reporting two finalists have emerged, and the fight is between Jai Courtney and Boyd Holbrook. Holbrook and Courtney were amongst five actors who were originally shortlisted and tested for the role.
The film, which will also have a TV series tie-in, will feature a young Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) as well as a young Kyle Reese and has been rumored to be set in the 1950s for at least one portion of events. Jason Clarke, meanwhile, will play a future version of their progeny, John Connor. Filming is expected to begin soon with a July 1, 2015 release date already set. The role is expected to span at least two movies.
Both Courtney and Holbrook were on our Faces to Watch in 2013, so it’s obvious Hollywood is watching them closely as well. Courtney will next be seen in “Divergent” and has wrapped Angelina Jolie’s “Unbroken” with Jack O’Connell. Holbrook recently premiered “Little Accidents” at Sundance and just finished David Fincher’s “Gone Girl.” I don’t envy the person who has to make this decision between these two promising rising stars.
