While the first trailer for “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” focused on the small pocket of humans – led by Gary Oldman, Keri Russell and Jason Clarke – still trying to survive in a world increasingly dominated by intelligent apes, the newest TV spot for the film shows us the other side of the war.
These apes, led once again by Andy Serkis mo-capped as Ceasar, joined now by Toby Kebbell, Judy Greer and others, have advanced quite a bit from what we last saw of them in “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” They carry weapons, they ride horses, and from the brief glimpse in this new trailer, they are forming close relationships with each other.
This film is still very mysterious and we’ve barely seen anything, but everything we’ve seen certainly looks great. Matt Reeves has taken over directing duties from Rupert Wyatt, and “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” will be released on May 23rd.
