Keira Knightley has quietly taken a small role in the currently-filming 3D disaster flick “Everest,” according to The Daily Mail. Her role is so small and her casting so quiet that she has actually already shot all her scenes at Pinewood Studios, while the main actors in the film – Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal – are still filming, in much less comfortable locations.
Baltasar Kormakur is directing the film about the 1996 Mt. Everest disaster, where a massive storm killed eight climbers from three separate expeditions. Jon Krakauer’s first hand account of his experience in “Into Thin Air” made the disaster famous, though the film will pull from other books and interviews with survivors and witnesses. Kightley will play the wife of Clarke’s character. It’s somewhat bad timing as the film is in production as an avalanche hit the mountain last month, killing sixteen climbers in the deadliest accident yet.
Knightley was last seen in “Jack Ryan,” which didn’t exactly relaunch the franchise potential of the classic Tom Clancy character, played this time by Chris Pine. She’ll next be seen in Sundance hit “Laggies” with Chloe Moretz as well as TIFF hit “Begin Again” with Mark Ruffalo. She’s also attached to produce as well as star in an adaptation of 1920s set romantic drama “The Other Typist.”
